Why the UK?

Education

The UK is recognised as a centre of academic excellence, where students can expect a world-class education that will set them on the road to their future careers.

As one of the world’s top five countries for industry-university collaboration, you can also access practical work-placements designed to help you get a head start in the real-world. From volunteering opportunities to internships and university societies, you’re guaranteed to leave with a competitive edge.

Multicultural

The UK is home to thousands of people from all around the world. A friendly, welcoming place for people of all countries, cultures and faiths.

Over 500,000 international students from more than 200 nations have studied higher education programmes in the UK, while a further 500,000 came to do an English language course and over 28,000 studied at UK independent schools.

Students in the UK will get to know people from all over the world, and you’ll learn about many different cultures.

On a single campus there could be students from more than 150 different countries, all contributing to its rich, diverse, multicultural society.

Multiculturalism has benefited the UK in all areas from industry and commerce to music, art, sport, science and literature. It has brought fresh ideas, new skills, labour and cultural diversity to the UK.

As a multi-faith society, students of all religions can expect to feel welcome in the UK, along with plenty of places to practise their faith. With a history of multiculturalism dating back hundreds of years, we have well-established communities representing all major religions, and a deep commitment to supporting students’ religious needs on campus.

Most schools, colleges and universities have prayer rooms that anyone can use, as do most public places, such as hotels, hospitals and airports. There are also many organisations representing students of a particular faith who can provide information and support from day one.

Living Costs

When comparing living costs between the UK and other countries it is worth remembering that UK courses tend to be shorter at undergraduate and Master’s level than in other countries, so accommodation and living costs are greatly reduced. Many institutions send students a pre-departure guide that includes information on living costs, accommodation and travel; these are also available on institution websites.

The cost of courses in the UK compares favourably with other major education destinations. The rate of international undergraduate student satisfaction with the cost of living in the UK is also higher than that of other top countries for studying abroad.

As many UK higher education courses are shorter than in other countries. Shorter UK degrees are more intensive, which means students will save a great deal on both tuition fees and living costs, as well as being able to start working and earn money sooner. Most full-time undergraduate courses take three years to complete, while full-time postgraduate courses take one year or more. This helps to keep tuition fees and living expenses down.

Time away from campus

When students want time away from their campus, the lush, green countryside of the UK offers the perfect escape from urban distractions:

  • They can enjoy climbing and great views in the Cairngorms in Scotland, the Lake or Peak District in England, or Welsh Brecon Beacons.

  • They may prefer rolling countryside punctuated with traditional villages, the Cotswolds in the south of England, or the emerald green countryside of Northern Ireland where they can visit Lough Neagh, Europe`s largest freshwater lake.

  • As the UK is an island, there are hundreds of miles of coastline to visit, from the golden sands of the Cornish coast to the picturesque fishing villages of Scotland and the internationally famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland.

Discover Europe

Students can easily and inexpensively travel to other European countries for education or pleasure to make the most of their spare time.

  • It’s never been easier to travel around the UK and continental Europe. Thanks to the Channel Tunnel, they can board a Eurostar train in London and be in Paris or Brussels in a few hours.

  • Frequent and efficient air services also connect major UK cities with many European destinations. In just over an hour, you could fly from Manchester to Amsterdam, Cardiff to Paris or Edinburgh to Dublin.

  • The excellent road and rail links mean that city-to-city journeys are generally quick.

By studying in the UK, students are making a sound investment to gain these skills.

The UK education style offers a personalised approach to help students to develop the intellectual skills and personal qualities they will need in their future life and career:

  • An analytical approach helps intellectual and career development.
